New Moves

Wladyslaw Kazmierczak & Ewa Rybska

Insecurity

Travelling through Jakarta, Jerusalem, Ground Zero, Boston, Mexico City and many other places, we noticed theres no time, anymore, for art whose main value lies in a modernistic background or Dadaists perfidy. Or in irony, jokes, or displaying a sense of humor, or eccentric imagination. The time for this kind of art had already passed. Now we have a time of the true (culture) war, all-pervasive limitations isolating our freedom in the name of security, copy rights and political correctness. The Western culture though, having the fantastic ability to assimilate and proclaim ideas of openness, is in fact a hermetic structure enforcing its own rules, which are not understandable to everyone. Our performance will offer some reflections about these questions, and will keep trying to overcome the limitations as far as possible.

Wladyslaw Kazmierczak (1951) has worked as a performance artist since 1974 creating hundreds of unique performances at major galleries, festivals, alternative venues and sites specific throughout the world (24 countries). Since 1997 he started duo performances together with Ewa Rybska (1958).
Rybska & Kazmierczak produced a number of political performances based on aspects of freedom, traumatic themes; political hypocrisy, issues of oppression and elimination of the origin cultures by the process of globalization. In performances they often deploy their very ironic and nihilistic attitude, especially against empty, fashionable values.
