I have no thoughts, and this is one of them
I will never befriend a penguin.
I will not be bitten by a snake.
I will not be touched by God.
I will never acquire a look.
I will not be circumcised.
I will not be owned.
A woman on an almost empty stage lists what she does not want, what she does not want to happen to her, what she will not do... a litany of pledges and resolutions, a stream of near-thoughts, near-comments and near-questions.
“I have no thoughts, and this is one of them” is a monologue of doubt, of trying, of wanting, of accepting. You are born into an average, middleclass family somewhere in the western world. You are approaching the halfway point of your life, or this is what you think. You’ve had a reasonable education and you have had access to a multitude of information and fortunes, or that is how it feels. You are a smart woman with a beautiful past and a wonderful future or that is how it seems. You are incredibly happy, or that is how it should be.
