Tim Etchells will make a solo lecture/performance to mark to the 20th anniversary of Forced Entertainment, looking back on the groups work, its working methods and the social and cultural context from which they have sprung.
Tim Etchells is the award-winning artistic director and writer behind Forced Entertainment, renowned for his comical, disturbing and ruthless take on the contemporary world, Etchells has led the company since its inception, leading projects in theatre, performance, digital media and installation.
He has also published three books; The Dream Dictionary (for the Modern Dreamer) an indispensable guide for modern dreamers everywhere (2001, Duckworths), Endland Stories, a brutal and comical collection of short fiction (1999, Pulp Books), and Certain Fragments, a unique collection of writings for and about performance (1999, Routledge).
Founded in 1984, Forced Entertainment is the UK's most respected and most groundbreaking experimental theatre company. The group has developed a style all of its own to discuss modern life in its joys and complexities and to explore the relationship between audience and performer. In Autumn 2004, Forced Entertainment will be touring a new work for theatres (working title) Bloody Mess.
Forced Entertainment are Honorary Associates of the NRLA and have appeared at the festival as invited and commissioned artists many times since their Platform appearance in 1986.
