Finding Audrey Cole
‘I want to find my grandma (aka Audrey Cole).
I have never met her. All I have is a name, an old photo, the information that she owns a B&B in Blackpool, and a very negative 21 year old mental sketch of her as being a cold, harsh woman who wasn’t interested in her family.
I invite the stranger to share a cup of tea with me in a room I have created from warmth and intimacy. Through live video projection of my hidden face and the presence of my physical body in the room, I document my journey to find my missing Grandmother. Audrey Cole began as a femme fatale; she was at the funeral of a close friend, sitting at the back with a smile on her painted lips. She grew into a real life story of a treasure hunt for my Grandma and a great day out at the seaside. Sometimes a twist of myth is more appealing.
I like to give myself the task of telling an unknown story and one-to-one work is of particular interest to me at the moment.’
