Sónia Baptista has been involved in performance since 1991. In 1992 she started working as a performer in contemporary dance. In 2000, while finishing the Contemporary Dance Performers Course, run by Forum Dança she presented the first series of HAIKUS for which she received the Ribeiro da Fonte award, given by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture. In 2003, as well as collaborating with Aldara Bizarro, Laureent Goldring, and Thomas Lehmen she created the solo diptych Icebox Fly. Winterkick. In 2004 she created the short solo A Tradicional and co-created As Parasitas, a time specific project with Patricia Portela.
Sónia Baptista’s work has been presented in Portugal, France, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Croatia, Austria, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, and Brazil.
