Surfaces of Inscription, Part Three (Immersion)

Premiere of a new work following on from the success of Surfaces of Inscription parts 1 and 2. Working with live performance, costume, video and soundscape, Sam continues a series of works, that look at the body inscribed by and immersed in language, exploring recurring themes within her work - language, sexuality and desire - Sam uses the mediated and live body, fluid, text and dissolvable fabric to create a series of actions through which skin and fabric slowly connect and become one.

The body is the inscribed surface of events (traced by language and dissolved by ideas) the locus of a disassociated Self (adopting the illusion of a substantial unity), and a volume in perpetual disintegration. Michel Foucault

Surfaces of Inscription, part 1 will be shown on video in the festival bar.Between April 2001 and Dec 2004 Sam Rose has been resident Artists Fellow at the Bonnington Gallery in Nottingham where she has developed this major series of work. She has also been invited to perform and exhibit internationally and has received support from the Arts Council England.
