Avatar
An improvisational performance between dancer, animator and sound designer. A time based piece in which the relationship between movements of the human body and drawn animation is explored inside the framework of an evocative electro-acoustic soundscape. The performance takes a journey from the figurative to the expressive relationships between dance, drawing and sound. The body moving in the space is the catalyst whereby the animator and sound designer enter into a three-way interaction within a structured improvisation.
Rajyashree Ramamurthi, Jeremy Radvan and Stuart Smith (creator of the acclaimed Laptop Jams) have been experimenting and collaborating on this project since 2003. Their main interest is in exploring the territory of interdisciplinary performance of which Avatar is one of the many projects.
Rajyashree creates cross-disciplinary performance work and dance for camera. At Dance on Screen 2004, Rajyashree won the Production Award. Recent live works include Vestige, a multi-media dance performance in the Victorian Sewers of Brighton.
