Rabbit Hole Collective RABBIT HOLE COLLECTIVE
Hopscotch
After three years collecting a matrix of film and movement repertory, the Rabbit Hole Collective has arrived at Hopscotch. Both film and dance, Hopscotch is the act of transferring from one surface to another. We propose it as a game for the spectator. Be active while being passive. Place things in order, then rearrange them. Displace a body, allow it to adapt. See the same thing again, shift the context, and time will follow. Why accept the effect of gravity on the body, the role of a spectator as inactive, the function of time among events, or the effect of words on a recurring action? Maybe there is a certain wisdom in remaining confused…
Rabbit Hole Collective is an attempt to destroy the established hierarchy in a dance group. The research began in P.A.R.T.S. school of dance in Brussels in 2003. Rabbit Hole began as a simple film made in a brick factory. Since then, the group has evolved and remains open in its attempts to collaborate, producing films, dance performances, and installations. Avoiding the word ‘company’ from the beginning, Domenico Giustino, Gilles Fumba, and Frauke Marien have assembled Hopscotch using several of the films from the repertory. Always in search of auspicious architectures, these films were made in a defunct coal mine in Essen, Germany.
