.the peculiar and muscular dance by the Portuguese choreographer Paulo Ribeiro has been among the high points of the 12 seasons of New Moves Scotland on Sunday

This is an important landmark for Paulo, who, after a three-year contract with Ballet Gulbenkian, has returned to making work for his own company. The thinking behind this rather wonderful tenth year anniversary hinges on digesting the past, reflecting deeply on whats already been created and experienced, and using that perspective to build on in the future. For Paulo this echoes a process that has always fascinated him: the search for what is meaningful and inspirational, and how that can feed into the creation of his work. Ten years on, his curiosity and enthusiasm mean he sees his current situation as a starting point. And since this festival has been a long-term partner throughout the process so far having presented many of the pieces created by Paulo were keen (okay, determined) to be present at this point of looking back/looking forward transition. We feel that our audiences, whove followed his career with pleasure, will want to be in on the anniversary action too.

The tenth anniversary performances will be based on the first pieces created by Paulo Ribeiro and his company. The performances of the show will be accompanied by the sale of a commemorative book and dvd and an opportunity to speak with the artists about the work of the company.

This time is inevitably one for introspection: we wont stop, but look back at what has happened. This is why Leonor Keil, Vtor Rua, Nuno Rebelo and myself are going to re-stage and more importantly recreate the pieces we have developed together. From the works created before we moved to Viseu (Saturday 2, Murmuring of Gods, Emerald Blue and Memories of Stone), a new piece will be created. This means to say that I will let myself be inspired by the ideas and materials from these works to conceive a different and contemporary object. Paulo Ribeiro
