Patrícia Portela (PORTUGAL)
FLATLAND TRILOGY

A very different and surprising evening at the theatre limited to 65 people per night, early booking is advised. Please note the earlier start time.

This is a multi-media performance that tells the tragic story of a Flatman who has discovered that
a third dimension is missing in his life.

Flatland I – going up, not North. In part one we follow Flatman on his reflection through worlds of bi-dimensionality and perspective until he finds out that his existence in the 3D world is possible if there are spectators looking at him. Happy with the discovery but unhappy with the dependency, Flatman organizes a strategy to conquer his tri-dimensional mortality.

In Flatman II – to be is to be seen, Flatman invents the ‘perfect’ strategy to obtain eternity in the 3D world. He organizes an excursion to the world of illusion and terrorism and invites us to participate in it. Flatman conquers mortality through a loop. Still, it is not enough.

In the last episode Flatland III, Flatman returns home… although having achieved a sort of immortality he has not conquered reality yet so the job is not finished. He still has to prove in Flatland that there are other worlds out there, spinning. And he still needs continuity. Loops are not enough. Knowing that the principle of reality and the principle of spectacle are the same, he researches a formula to build the perfect machine of simultaneous dimensions, the ‘facts machine’…
