Omvallen
Two people live in their little house.
They do things the way they should.
But the things dont listen.
Then they try to overcome their incomprehension of things and to keep their world controllable.
Their rituals are hopeless but brave.
Utterly dedicated, they stand firm.
We know they do not have a chance.
Tilting is the new play by Sanne van Rijn, whose recent highly individual plays for ZT Hollandia include Zwanenmeer, Langzaam tot nul (to zero) and Vormsnoei.
Sanne van Rijns theatre is about looking; looking between the folds of the visible. Its sometimes said that in her plays the audience has to work harder than the actors. This is because the audience never sees anything final, only things that may not go according to plan... because someone is watching. To witness something that was intended to be perfect but which fails in its execution this is what she likes best of all. So she doesn't try to disguise the defects, but actually makes them the focal point. For her, the extreme magnification of bungling has nothing to do with irony, even though there's plenty of laughter. On the contrary, its the house in which the actors live. By making her actors weak, she wants to make the audience strong. For the NRLA the piece will be seen as an installation with two cycles of the performance.
