Untitled, 2002–2007
Marie Cool and Fabio Balducci return to the NRLA for the third time, where they will present a working step towards
a new project. This work includes pieces that were part of Untitled (Prayers), 1996–2004 – but which were never shown at the NRLA – and others that will be part of the project Untitled, 2003–2009 (working title). The duration of this
project is variable. In Glasgow, they will perform for 4 hours (twice), repeating some pieces at random. The formal structure of this new project cannot at present be defined, but the repetition induces a distance from conventional representation. The audience loses track of time. There is no beginning or end any more. The older and new pieces
are however linked by the same preoccupation: to work at the very place where the images are formed and at the
point where they are not yet memory. They work towards abstraction, the images being more and more remote.
Paris-based French and Italian artists Marie Cool and Fabio Balducci have worked together for 10 years. They have performed at the South London Gallery, Ikon Gallery, Home, and the Baltic Centre for the Contemporary Arts. They have also performed at Festival d’Avignon, Festival La Bâtie, Geneva, attitudes, Geneva, Kampnagel, Hamburg, and Les Halles de Schaerbeek, Brussels. They have exhibited at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and Galerie Catherine Bastide, Brussels.
