LISA MILNE
Shits and Giggles

‘Where in the brain is the funny bone?

A thieving magpie building a nest of smirks, chuckles, and chortles. It’s a sad state of affairs, you see I can’t laugh. An inquiry into the nature of laughter, not for shits and giggles but for the good of my health. Laughter after all is the best medicine.
The work began with a task – learning how to laugh. I searched the World Wide Web and trailed through childhood memories, psychology, and meditation seeking answers. Many people aided my search, and I am still looking.’
Based in Glasgow, Lisa Milne graduated in 2006 from the RSAMD with an honours degree in Contemporary Theatre Practice. In her work she likes beauty; she tries to create beauty from everyday objects; she wants to surprise; she continues to search for her funny bone because she can’t laugh. Shits and Giggles was performed at Tramway as part of Into The New Festival, 2006.
