ICE/DREAMS/FIRE (2003) British Premiere

In the 1970s Soviet archeologists uncovered a frozen, tattooed body from the Siberian permafrost. Over 6,000 years old, the body was perfectly preserved in the ice. The tattoos (the oldest known) revealed strange hybrid animal shapes, full of movement and life.

Inspired by these ancient images, dance-maker Laurie Booth has created Ice/Dreams/Fire, which premiered at the Brighton Festival and was one of the highlights of this year's Dance Umbrella festival. Artist Tom Richards constructs a frozen environment of suspended thawing ice sculptures. Together with Nick Rothwells haunting electronic score, performed live, Laurie Booth delivers a beautiful elegy in three parts, to all our frozen ancestors.

For years internationally recognised as a leading force in European dance, Booth makes work that is physically innovative, reflective and powerful. In Ice/Dreams/Fire he is at his spellbinding best, highlighting his amazing physical control and his consistently original creativity.

he can invest the simplest things with greatness, a dancer at his creative and physical peak
