The Hollow Lady

This year Katie emerges from the shadows to push the possibilities of sartorial screens or worn video, focussing on the interplay between live and screen based performance.

In exploring the particular space that the worn screen creates, she approaches it both as a cavity a void, a window on within and also as a second skin an edited version of the artists body, the bits she chooses to show you, real, surreal and imagined.

Live performance, video, a soundscape by Armchair Astronaut and specially designed costume, seamlessly coalesce in a work that also references the treatment of the female body in stage magic, early cinema and illusion-based sideshows.

The Hollow Lady is a live video installation performance for small audiences in an intimate booth.

Since graduating with First Class Honours in Dance and Visual Art from the University of Brighton in 2001, Katie has presented work that attempts to transcend conventional confines of the screen in a variety of contexts, including Hastings Museum and Art Gallery, Chisenhale Dance Space, Winchester Hat Fair and Manchesters Garden of Delights. Katie also co-runs Brighton studio and window gallery The Old Clock Shop, and in May 2005 co-curated Clock Works, a live art pilot project involving 13 artists.
