[+] KARLA SACHSE  (GERMANY)
Basket of Experience

‘On a farm in the jungle of Thailand, Khun Pikul Deelong-ngam taught me to weave baskets out of old newspapers. Declined news turns into growing information. Under my hands they have got the shape of organs.
I sit down
at different places of the world
to chat with people while
weaving prosy data into
poetic bodies.

A collection of Glasgow‘s daily newspapers is cut into strips and rolled into flexible sticks. The skeleton of a basket is formed with wrapped wire. I sit for some hours every day to weave. Blank thin paper strips are kept ready. People who sit with me for a while can write little stories, secrets on them to be included in the growing basket that will be shaped by my experiences during the daily work.’
Karla Sachse was born in East Germany in 1950. Since 1982 she has made exhibitions, mail art, street events, visual poetry, installations, and language rooms.
