(Master of Ceremonies)
After another year’s absurd activity with his company Mischief La-Bas (this time building a complete town square in various locations) artist and director Ian Smith returns to the fold that is the NRLA. Stripping down to the bare essentials of open-mindedness, he invites you once again to plunge with him into the pool of opportunities on offer, and get truly soaked. He will lead the way by waving, not drowning, and is happy to inflate your water wings.

Médecins sans Frontières (installation)
‘Since I was about five years old, filling in penny squares on a tally card to help starving Biafran children, my principal relationship with ‘Third World’ countries has been a one-way contract of offering small amounts of cash to relieve distant tragedy, disaster or sickness. From an armchair.
Well now I feel sick.
Sick of the bankruptcy of the society I inhabit.
Sick of the absence of compassion, sick of everyday brutality.
Sick of moral and spiritual bankruptcy.
So I am going to seek aid.
In a post-tsunami war-torn ‘Paradise’ of Buddhism, bombs, beauty and bribery,
I want to bring back a Medicine Chest.’
