HELENA WALSH
Consuming Colonies
Helena Walsh extends a darkly delightful invitation to a dining extravaganza, combining fine dining with self-service, bourgeois table manners with primal rawness. The bloody substance essential to maintaining human life is on the menu, a substance created by us all. The meaty walls of a place we all occupy will be carved up, walls that divide yet sustain, providing an ethical meat produced out of birth not death. Such carving cuts through our common links and separations, our similarities and differences, our innocence and corruption. Promising plates plentiful in food for thought, have you got the stomach for Consuming Colonies?
Originating from Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, Helena Walsh devises performance, video, and installation works. Her works strongly intertwine the personal with the political. She completed her Masters at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2004 and is currently based in London.
