Anxieties of the Everyday

Hannah Talbots installation explores the physical and emotional realities of everyday anxieties. A collection of interviews with the public reveal behavioural patterns and strategies for coping with moments of personal crisis and insecurity.

Within an immersive environment of constructed rooms, carefully placed objects combine with hand held speakers to encourage an intimate relationship with the audience.

Ghostly figures perform repetitive tasks exploring habits, rituals and neurosis.

A key turns in the lock as a figure flicks on a light; a gloved hand scrubs frantically at the floor after the invasion of an uninvited visitor. A man assembles piles of paper in regimental order. Murmurs of voices merge to create an orchestra of narratives. In a private booth audience members are invited to record their own experience of anxiety. A return visit to the installation reveals the integration of those audience narratives into the ever-developing space of investigation.

Graduating in 2004 with a first class honours in Dance and Visual Arts from The University of Brighton Hannah Talbot gained the Burt Brill and Cardens and The Nagoya award for outstanding Artist Achievement.
