Encounter(s)

Tejal Shah and Varsha Nair

Swathed in a shell of white self-embroidered fabric, two bodies wrap in an urban landscape to shape with the architecture. The straightjacket exoskeleton joined at the arms forms an outstretched bridge to span the distance between being connected and being able to touch.

Tejal Shah (Bombay) and Varsha Nair (Bangkok) talked via email about their respective interest in hysteria, the edge within everyday normality, and loneliness within the teeming cities they live in, and shared their own sense of isolation.

Presenting their first interaction at NRLA 2006, in these daily meditations they create a durational tableau vivant responding immediately to spaces they encounter.
