NOAHS ARK
In the beginning were found objects. An unlikely scatter of discarded items, fragments of a dead or abandoned time, place, being. But resurrection is in the eye, and hands, of the creative artist. Hope springs from the ability to cope with disasters, disappointments, displacements ... oh, and a sense of humour and a resilient care for humankind will always help to float your boat.
John Fletcher brought from France the biggest wheel I ever had still with French herbs on its spokes and a skull of a deer from his farm in Auchtermauchty. I found two more wheels at the scrap yard belonging to other John from Galashiels. Scott from Tim Steads workshop in Blainslie gave me two wheels from his old motorbike.
The skull of a lamb we found under mysterious circumstances in Balquihiddar near Claire and Charlies house.
Cassandra and Chris brought the old weather wind-flag, perforated by shots it used to work on one of Edinburghs roofs.
So gradually, the Ark was built from materials from all over the land...The creatures came themselves as soon as construction was finished. Eduard Bersudsky, recipient of the Creative Scotland Award 2005.
