ETUDE #1 & DES FEUX DANS LA NUIT British Premiere
After presenting several solo works over the past twenty years that explored the feminine psyche, Marie Chouinard has choreographed a solo for a male dancer for the first time. Des Feux Dans La Nuit is energetic and gentle, tormented, yet serene, that celebrates a powerful instinct for life. The solo unfolds in space like a journey through the intimacy and fragility of man. Supported by live piano composition by Rober Racine, Marie Chouinard deciphers the twists and turns of the male universe.
Etude#1 is the result of an encounter between choreographer, electro-acoustic composer Louis Dufort and dancer Lucie Mongrain. In a minimal, blue rectangle setting that echoes the dancers steel-tipped shoes, Marie Chouinard has created a geometric and unbridled dance in five parts, five variations with specific themes and common body movements. The body becomes the pretext for a series of movements
at times dislocated, at times undulated, a "steel" dance extended by real time processed sound.
