Territories intimes
Two years ago, as part of the National Review of Live Art, Michele Noiret performed an exquisite solo that intertwined live movement with film, creating a multiplicity of selves that externalised inner dialogues and core concerns. Now she brings a company piece to New Territories, loosely based on a novel by Virginia Woolf, but with the same haunting hallmark of her own choreographic quest to show what lies at the innermost heart, mind and memory of human experience.
"In my choreographic work, I do not explore the physical or everyday aspects of the act of performing on stage. My pieces are transpositions, investigating most often intimate territories, internalised worlds linked to memory, that boundless well of images that are always ready to come to the fore. They hark back to indefinable realms, the world of our beginnings, the undifferentiated time of birth or death. Oblique images, as disturbing as they are familiar, emerging from our hidden memories.
For Territoires intimes, I choose to draw more deeply on elements from my personal world as well as from that of the performers in a blend of memories, dreams and reality, images and fantasy. This work is done in close association, with all partners and performers taking part in the research process. My objective is to make the characters exist through their memories emotional atmosphere and tangible poetry.
This performance is loosely based on Virginia Woolfs novel "The Waves". Six human beings, six interior monologues whose solitary curves meet and intermingle. The lighting, projected images and soundscapes intensify each characters innermost feelings and diffract them to multiply the echoes of their presence." Michele Noiret
