FLICKER British Premiere
In Flicker, two movies collide and bleed onto a single screen. In one movie, Justin searches for a saviour from self-annihilation, but can't be helped by the morbid voyeur Jeff nor the manipulative Rebecca; then he meets Willie who speeds him along his path of destruction. In another film, a group of city friends find themselves lost in a wilderness that turns mythic and murderous. As the two films intersect, a dark tale of disjunction emerges, exploring a complex web of voyeurism and death. A comedy.
Watching the screen, the audience sees a movie. Watching the performers, the audience sees the making of the movie. The form short-circuits the audience's ability to discern gender, race and sexuality; dissecting the semantics of everyday visual communication, becoming a new way of relating the fluidity and manufacture of identity.
No description of Flicker is likely to convey its ragged, witty lunacy.
Neil Genzlinger, New York Times
Intriguingly unique and original... it's unlike anything else in town.
Chip Deffaa, New York Post
...a breakneck immediacy that feels very contemporary.
