Palladio
Based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Jonathan Dee, this is a love story where conflict between the worlds of art and advertising engenders confrontation between passion and irony.
Playable interactive digital video and live music combine to create a new kind of cinematic/dramatic experience incorporating elements of cinema, opera, video installation, live concert and popular culture. This work examines the nature of love and obsession, the dynamics of dysfunctional families, and the relationship within art, advertising and commerce.
The story of Palladio will be told using video sampling and VJ techniques, involving a cast of three lead characters and three supporting actors. The piece is run live in performance by Neill and Jones, using on-stage computers, DJ/VJ mixing and live music.
BEN NEILL is a performer, composer and inventor of the mutantrumpet, a hybrid electro-acoustic instrument. Through his use of interactive computer technologies, Neill creates a unique musical and visual universe, melding the worlds of electronic music, jazz, club culture and visual media. He has recorded seven cds and his video remixes with Bill Jones were presented at Sundance 2004 and have been aired on Fox TV network. BILL JONES is a digital video artist, photographer and installation artist. Jones was a seminal figure in the Vancouver School of conceptual photography and the founder of Artbyte Magazine of Digital Culture.
