The piece will
involve simple sculptural components of heat, light, liquid and
body. The main thrust of the piece is to create an environment that
undergoes a modification as my body does within it. The elements
will be stark and simple. The performance environment will be harsh
and unforgiving for both the audience and myself. I envision the
performative aspect of the work lasting at least an hour. I would
like the space and the traces to remain assessable to the public
longer as an installation. Six free standing electric heaters and
four free standing builders lights will be arranged in a formal
structure directed inwards demarcating a smaller rectangular
'performance' space. The heaters will be almost but not quite too
close for comfort in that they will not burn me but will certainly
create uncomfortable amount of heat for me in particular and the
audience to a lesser degree. The audience will be allowed to move
freely around the periphery of the space. Within the performance
space will be a large quantity of ice and/or milk, which will
melt/sour during the process. I will work in a similar way to
previous pieces in that I will be making a series of superficial
openings by cutting into my skin. This marking will be laboured and
repetitive, most likely covering as much of the body as I am able to
reach. There will perhaps be moments of display of the body as a
work in progress punctuating the action. |
