Moving between medieval and contemporary extremes, Stevie Wishart's work as a sound artist, composer and performer draws on the contrasting landscapes and histories of Australia and Europe. Transients, her new ensemble, features Vivien Ellis (voice, percussion), Jocelyn West (voice, violin), Rhodri Davies (harp, prepared harp), Dirk Wachtelaer (Percussion, Electronics) and Sadik Gibril (Moroccan percussion). Mixing arcane technologies such as Stevie Wishart's own hurdy-gurdy with contemporary digital and analogue sound, transient fragments of pre-classical music cross fade, collide and undergo electronic transformations. Dubbed-out and trance dance beats combine with traditional Arabic and medieval chants to create an 'imposing sonic edifice' (The Wire). Commissioned by the Music Fund of the Australia Council in association with the Beursschouwberg, Brussels |
