Stelarc (Australia)  |  Prosthetic Head

"a 3D avatar head that has real-time lip-synching, speech synthesis and facial expressions"

British Premiere

The Prosthetic Head project is a 3D avatar head that has real-time lip-synching, speech synthesis and facial expressions. Head nods, head tilts and head turns as well as changing eye gaze contribute to the personality of the agent and the non-verbal cues it can provide. The Prosthetic Head will have the capability of increasing its database from the conversations it will have.

Communicating with computers can be enhanced with Embodied Conversational Agents, constructing actual/virtual communication systems. There is a need to engineer individuated and intelligent avatars that can impart and exchange specialist information (as expert systems) - to facilitate operations in both real-world and virtual task environments.
