a place to try new things | for the audience as much as the performers

The NRLA takes place over five days at The Arches with each day packed with a wonderfully diverse range of international work that defies definition.

You may be provoked, amused or just curious but with a day ticket you can see a great cross-section of projects by artists who recognise no rules.

Many established artists premiere new pieces, while The Platform features the brightest new artists from across the UK and Ireland. Platform Artists are chosen from a nation-wide selection process hosted by venues and colleges in collaboration with the NRLA and the Live Art Development Agency, London.

The longest running live art festival in Europe, the NRLA is renowned for developing new talent and for introducing new audiences to live art. Many previous platform artists have gone on to world acclaim including Forced Entertainment, Annie Griffin and Douglas Gordon. Other artists who have created major works for past festivals include Derek Jarman, Mona Hatoum, DV8, Guillermo Gomez Peña, Franko B and Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker.
