A New Media Scotland video programme curated by Bruno Franceschi Video art has been a vital and vibrant form of cultural practice in Croatia from its beginnings in the late 1960s. This programme includes pioneering work by Ante Bozanich and Breda Beban / Hrvoje Horvatic, alongside work by a new generation of artists. The programme is divided into two feature-length parts - Old School and New School - with each artist represented by a single video, chosen to represent the most interesting moment of her/his creativity. Old School presents videos from the 1970s and 80s. It features work by artists who moved into video from the avant-garde film circle alongside work by younger artists who started making video and are now pursuing careers as film directors. New School presents a younger generation who graduated in the 1990s from Croatia's Academy of Fine Arts. Although trained in traditional disciplines of painting and sculpture, they immediately switched exclusively to video and multi-media art. |
