"swinging microphones and ... sounds collected around the city"

In Steve Reich's famous Pendulum Music, swinging microphones suspended above speakers created a series of identical feedback pulses, which moved sonically due to gradually changing phase relations.

The Pendulum Electronica is a modern day extension of Reich's work, placing this process into the real world by using sounds collected around the city played by four swinging torches that build into their own complex natural rhythms.

Matt Cook graduated from Cardiff School of Art in 2002, where his studies in time-based practice were primarily concerned with sound and rhythmic structures.
