"It is not the pain itself that matters. We never did things for the pleasure of pain."

Curated by Marina Abramović for new territories

Since her first performance in 1969, Marina Abramovi
ć has been exploring physical limits and mental potential. This video programme, chosen by Abramović herself, shows a number of early performance works made with Ulay in the mid-'70s alongside a solo performance from the same period. Marina Abramović is currently a Professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Hamburg) and at the Acadèmie des Beaux Arts (Paris) and teaches all over the world. She won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennale in 1997.
