Hotel Modern with Arthur Sauer (the Netherlands)
The Great War

"poignant, powerful and yet so simple that, at times it brings tears to the eyes."

A live animation film conceived and performed by Herman Helle and a three-strong team of puppeteers and video innovators recreates the terror and helplessness of men trapped in the hell of the trenches during the First World War. We see what the soldiers see and we hear what they think. We witness the transformation of a rural landscape into poisonous mud.
