The theatrical
environment of New Plaza will feature sculptural skateboard obstacles
specially commissioned for Molecules In Motion from Scottish visual
artist Toby Paterson.
The interactive atmosphere of the event will encourage participation
from the public who are encouraged to bring along their boards. Professional
skateboarders including, Colin Kennedy will ensure maximum thrills and
inspirational activity throughout the two-day event.
New Plaza
also provides a unique opportunity for British audiences to see the stunning
DVD installation series - Man
with Balls on Hands and Feet by Swedish visual artist Lars Siltberg that
was shown to great acclaim at the Venice Biennale 2001.
Man with balls on hands and feet is the name of the video series
containing three films. Man On Ice and Man On Water shows a man
venturing on the physical contradictory; to stand straight up on an ice or a
water surface, with balls attached to hands and feet. In Man On Air the
support obtained by friction is altered with a heavy stream of air. Through
this very simple and obviously impossible combination of hard, spherical forms
contradicting the ice, the water and the air stream, an excruciating yet human
situation is stressed.
New Plaza will
also feature interactive DVD created during the Molecules in Motion
community programme.
