Dance
filmmaking is still in its infancy in Scotland but with the cost of broadcast
quality video and non-linear editing now plummeting to an affordable price, we
have seen an increase in the number of dance artists working in the digital
video field. Exploiting the possibilities afforded by technology has
liberated the dance artist from creating work for stage alone and Dance and Screen, Scotland will be a unique platform that looks at
the work of eleven Scottish dance artists and their different approaches to
dance filmmaking for the single screen.
A
presentation by Katrina McPherson, a forerunner in dance filmmaking in
Scotland, will launch Dance and Screen,
Scotland and where possible the dance films will be introduced by the
creators. Different programmes
will be screened before and after the main stage Tramway presentation.
The
programme below features some of the best dance filmmakers working in Scotland
today.
