Hope

The artist is completely still in a meditative stance that in many ways embodies a timeless endurance. On her head is a bird made from frozen milk. Birds represent an ancient symbol of spirit and, in old Egyptian friezes, the dove stands for the soul of the departed. In classical myth birds were associated with the life of the heavens. Milk is seen here as a life giving and sustaining substance. The artist stands in a classical, Maria Orans posture with her arms open and her palms facing outwards, which denotes a position of acceptance and vulnerability. Over a period of three and half hours the bird melts and becomes absorbed into the artist.

Anne graduated with First Class Honours from NCAD and has shown work at the Dublin Fringe Festival and Temple Bar Galleries, Dublin
