Angie Dight (Scotland)

A Viva España – Kitsch v Art

Flamenco dancer and performer Angie Dight’s installation reflects the dichotomies involved within her experience of performing flamenco.

The entertaining kitsch first promoted to tourists during the Franco regime and still favoured beyond Spain is represented by a live installation within an 8ft high snowglobe. Respected and taken seriously as an art form in Spain and among aficionados, “The art” is reflected and explored within the experimental sound piece created in collaboration with musician and artist Bruno Gallagher.

Angie Dight is one of the founding partners of the street theatre company Mischief la-bas. She works as a performer within the company as well as performing her own solo pieces. She has been dancing flamenco since 1998 and has studied with many top flamenco dancers and teachers. In 2000 she began working with Bruno Gallagher and they have taken their flamenco to the streets and bars of Glasgow and beyond. In 2004 they created the comedic street show “flamenco fritas”.
