Mouthings
Influenced by ideas of abjection and the grotesque body, Angelas work utilises notions of feminine, cultural and physical transgressions and the possibilities they offer. It puts an emphasis on acts associated with the oral, the faade and the masquerade.
As a series of actions performed at intervals throughout a day, the potentially perceived dysfunctional and impolite uses of the mouth are acted out to an unknowing audience. Performed in frequently inhabited public spaces, the actions will confront the audience with chance encounters that will play on personal parameters of what is safe and comfortable. As the public unwittingly negotiates the artist spitting, licking, dribbling, choking and chewing, these chance mediations will allow them to engage in live art beyond the normal contractually entered space.
Among others, Angela has shown her work at Catalyst Arts in Belfast, 291 Gallery, London, Sensitive Skin, Nottingham and at the Candid Projection Room in London.
